55-63 : Cambie Street Bridge South

Mark

This is a view of the south end of the Cambie Street Bridge from 1955. You can see a good chunk of the Mt. Pleasant and Fairview areas of Vancouver all the way back to Queen Elizabeth Park. The photo itself is labelled “Johnson Storage” but I was unable to find any information about the company online.

The pictured bridge was actually officially named the Connaught Bridge after the then Governor General, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. Not that 99.9% of Vancouverites didn’t call that second Cambie Street bridge just that.

Johnston Storage or Johnston Terminals were a shipping and warehousing company in Vancouver for many years. They disappeared sometime in the ’80’s. They occupied many buildings in Yaletown, False Creek, North Van, etc. Here’s a pic : Link
