    The rider is standing by in case of a horse pile-up which does happen ..alongside notice the ambulance also there in case of emergency. That rider’s job would be to catch any stray horses that may have lost their riders. I lived in the house you can see just behind the grandstand..

    I don’t know much about horse races, but why is there a single horse and rider standing casually at the first turn with the rest of the pack thundering towards them?
