BO-48-3047 : Old Shaughnessy Golf Course

Mark

This is the Shaughnessy area of Vancouver from 1948. Old Shaughnessy Golf Course is now the site of the VanDusen Botanical Garden. There’s an interesting “camp” at the top of the image that looks like a military base. I count approximately 80 buses in the parking lot. If anyone has any information about this, please post to the comments.

Yes that is the Oakridge transit center. The property was just sold for 440.000.000 in 2017.

The camp you see is probably the RCMP E Division barracks which was much larger at that time

Photo is west to east, Granville at bottom. Golf course extended across Oak Street (now Eric Hamber HS) The land has been cleared at the centre right for the Oakridge depot, to store and service those new-fangled “trolley buses” that the BCE plans to replace the streetcars. This part of the City was largely undeveloped until after the Second World War… and did have army barracks
