BO-53-41 : Granville Bridge Construction
This is a cool shot of the construction of the new Granville Street Bridge from 1953. You can still see the old Granville Street Bridge in operation just to the left. Unfortunately, the image is not as crisp as some of the others, but still really interesting.
53-112 : Brentwood Mall
This is the Brentwood Mall area of Burnaby from 1953. We just miss the Lougheed Highway at the bottom of the screen. Willingdon Avenue is on the left and the big cluster of trees on the lower quarter of the image is now Brentwood Mall.
53-110 : Brentwood Park
This is the Brentwood Park area of Burnaby from 1953. The street at the bottom of the screen is Lougheed Highway and the street running up the right is Delta Avenue. Not much there, yet.
BO-53-50 : Jericho Beach Air Station
This is a photo of the Jericho Beach Air Station from 1953. Also known as RCAF Air Station Jericho Beach, the facility began operations in 1920 as a flying boat station. Later it was home to the No. 4 and No. 6 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadrons, and No. 1 Signal Squadron of the RCAF. Only one building remains today which was converted into the Jericho Sailing Center.
BO-53-63 : University of British Columbia
This is a shot of the area around the University of British Columbia from 1953. Near the middle you’ll find the Iona Building of the Vancouver School of Theology.
53-92 : Capilano Stadium
In 1951 when this stadium was first built, it was called Capilano Stadium, but in 1978 it was renamed to Nat Bailey Stadium. This photo is from 1953.
