BO-51-245 : Cascade Drive-In Burnaby
This is the Cascade Drive-In, in Burnaby, from June 16, 1951. The movie theater was located in Cascade Heights at the corner of Canada Way and Curle Avenue. It was torn down in 1982 to make room for townhouses and office space. You can also see the start of construction of Burnaby General Hospital.
I incorrectly had this identified as Lougheed Drive-In. Thanks to Robert for the correction.

Hi! I worked at the Cascades drive-in for about 5 years. Starting as a car-hop, cook, and finally as a ticket seller at the entrance. I’ll always remember… Don’t forget your speakers folks. To avoid damage to your window kindly replace your incar speaker in its rack before driving off. And at this time the Cascades drive-in bids you good-night. Cliff
I recall seeing the movies playing while sitting in the White Spot (Still there btw). Also there used to be a weekend flea Market in there that was sometimes interesting.
I remember that drive in, when I was a kid.
My dad took me there to see scary horror movies. He had to hang the big speaker box on side window. Often wondered if cars drove off with them still attached?
Other points of interest. The Lougheed Drive Inn is visible at the very top – right. Just Southwest is the Burnaby Lake Interurban Line curving down to run along the CN/GN line. Between the two Gilmore rail crossings is now Home Depot. That drive-in was the “Cascade” not the”Lougheed”.
The Lougheed Drive-in was on Lougheed Hwy and Gilmore St.
