Quadra school is easily found, just above Baker Brick and Tile, in the foreground, and their quarry area which is now Topaz Park. My Grandparents’ home at 3235 Quadra was just off the left edge, a half block from the little commercial buildings at Tolmie and Quadra.

Most interesting to see this image. My family moved into the first new house from Finlayson on Glasgow and John McKeachies family was next door towards Tolmie. Older house toward Finlayson was the Coutts family.

Starting at the extreme left, upper part of pic you can identify the clock tower at Camosun College, Landsdowne campus. Scroll to right and see two long clear areas- the upper is landsdown slope, now all houses- it was the site of the Willows fairgrounds and racetrack- See the white grandstand bldg. still there. The lower clear area was the Landsdowne field airport, running between Richmond and Shelbourne streets, and from Landsdowne Rd to Newton St. Oaklands School is clear just below the Newton St. end of the airport, and I can spot my old Myrtle St. home! Thanks so much for these photos!

A funny but true story about the early days of this subdivision. I was at one time a Garbageman for the City of Vic, and folklore has it (before MY time) that while the Man of some of these wartime houses was away some of the wives became extra friendly to the Garbage men, hence this area became known among Garbage men as “P##ker Heaven”. It is still called that today, though its not inhabited by Service families anymore. Its still Legend LOL.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I live in this area and I find it so interesting to look at all the houses that were built then that are still there now. Any chance there are more of these for other areas in Victoria like in Saanich? Thank you!

Unfortunately, it seems like most of the Victoria images all fall around the Inner Harbour. But there are lots of images I still haven't gone through, so it's always possible...

Awsome picture. This is the neigbourhood that I grew up in. BTW the street running diagonally through the picture is Finlayson St. Tolmie Ave runs diagonally at the extreme left. Foreground is the Baker Brick and Tile yard, now know as Mayfair mall.

That's what I meant but I guess I wasn't clear enough. I'll change my wording. Thanks!
